Hawarden, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals traveled to Hawarden Friday night for the 2nd round of the Class A Playoffs, matching up against West Sioux.
The previous meeting between the two schools resulted in a Class A District 1 win for West Sioux by a score of 35-14.
Sibley-Ocheyedan got started out well, as the Generals marched down field, taking up a little over 5 minutes and scoring on a Hunter Kauffman Touchdown run on the QB sneak from 2 yards away.
The two teams traded turnovers on the next couple drives, and West Sioux capitalized on the Sibley-Ocheyedan fumble with a quick, 70-yard Touchdown pass on a screen to do-it-all tailback Braylon Lopez, tying the game at 7.
West Sioux scored on their next two offensive drives as well. The Falcon Defense really locked up the middle, stonewalling the Sibley-Ocheyedan rushing attack for the rest of the first half, and West Sioux led 21-7 after the first 24 minutes of action.
The third quarter was dominated by the Falcons, though the scoreboard didn’t really reflect it, as they were only able to turn in a Field Goal from Jonathon Flores to make it 24-7.
From there, the Generals were forced to play desperation catch-up, and West Sioux capitalized on some short fields to make the final score 31-14.
Braylon Lopez was dominant for a second straight week for the Falcons, carrying the ball 16 times for 164 yards and catching four passes for 118 yards.
Blake Wiggins completed 14 of his 20 passes for two touchdowns and as many interceptions with 200 yards while rushing for 38 yards.
The Falcons will advance to the State Quarterfinals which brings a road trip to Guthrie Center where they will play AC/GC after the Chargers got past Mount Ayr 21-7.
In the loss for Sibley-Ocheyedan, Hunter Kauffman carried the ball 19 times for 70 yards and a Touchdown while completing 13 of his 25 passes for 156 yards and a Touchdown.
The Generals wrap up their 2025 season with a record of 5-5.
