Sioux City, IA (KICD) — Governor Reynolds has another District Court Judge’s position to fill in Northwest Iowa. On the recommendation of a nominating commission, she has promoted John M. Sandy to the Iowa Court of Appeals, and last week a local nomination commission recommended that either Assistant Attorney General Elizabeth Specketer or Associate Judge Andrew Smith be named to fill that vacancy.
Now District Court Judge Nancy Whittenburg from Spencer is retiring from District 3-1, which covers Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, and Palo Alto Counties.
A special nominating commission will interview six applicants for the position September 20th at the Dickinson County Courthouse. They are the three applicants for Sandy’s position – Specketer, Smith, and Emmet County County Attorney Melanie Summers Bauler; also Adam Miller from Cherokee, Lisa Steffen from Milford, and Nolan McGowan from Sibley.
