Estherville, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls and Boys Basketball teams hit the road on Monday night to begin their second round of Lakes Conference games.

Estherville Lincoln Central girls got out to a great start on their home floor against the Tigers, outscoring Spencer 20-4 in the first 8 minutes. Spencer would put together a better quarter in the 2nd, but ELC still outscored them, and led 39-18 at the half. Both defenses were pretty stingy in the 3rd, as the two teams combined for only 18 points, and Estherville Lincoln Central led going into the 4th 49-26. ELC finished very strong, dominating the 4th quarter, outscoring Spencer 16-2 down the stretch to win 65-28.

Estherville Lincoln Central outscored Spencer a combined 36-6 in the 1st and 4th Quarters. Haylee Stokes led ELC with 22 points and Rylee Yager scored 18.

Spencer was led by Kennedy Graettinger in the loss with 16.

The Tigers are now 4-12 on the year and 0-5 in the Lakes Conference.

Estherville Lincoln Central has now won 32 consecutive Lakes Conference contests and are 6-0 in the League with a 15-2 overall record as the #2 team in Class 3A.

In the Boys contest, Spencer got off to a nice start offensively and led 20-13 going into the 2nd. From there, the Tigers steadily pulled away, outscoring Estherville Lincoln Central 15-10 in the 2nd, 19-12 in the 3rd, and dominated the 4th quarter 14-4. Spencer would match their season high for points in the 68-39 win.

11 different Tigers scored in the win, led by Brady Vreeman’s 15, with Ethan Hansen and Cael Bruning also in double digits.

Sincere McMurran had 15 and Amari Armstrong scored 10 for ELC.

Estherville Lincoln Central has dropped 7 in a row and are now 2-13 on the year with a 0-6 Conference record.

Spencer has won 3 of their last 5 since a 3-game losing streak in early January. Their overall record improves to 9-6 with a Conference record of 2-3.

Up next for Estherville Lincoln Central will be a road trip to Cherokee on Friday, featuring a top 8 matchup in the Girls contest.

Spencer will host Spirit Lake on Friday as both teams look to avenge losses taken back on January 9th.
