Mason City, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Area swim team was in Mason City for the Region 1 Championships on Saturday.
The Medley Relay took 4th Place, with the team made up of Halle Sears, Ella Kasperbauer, Lily Gross, and Ava Vogt. That Relay is on their way to State with a time of 1:53.06.
Halle Sears had a big day for the Tigers individually, winning both the 200 Yard Individual Medley, breaking her own school record with 2:09.52 and finishing first in the 100 Yard Butterfly, also breaking her own school record with a time of 57.98. Sears will compete at the State Meet in both of those events.
Lilly Gross broke her own school record in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.92. Gross will try to best that time again at the State Meet next weekend. Ella Kasperbauer will join her at the State Championships after clocking 1:09.12 in the same event.
The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay was 4th with Ava Vogt, Ella Kasperbauer, Lily Gross, and Halle Sears.
Vogt, Emily Schmidt, Kasperbauer, and Gross teamed up for the 400 Freestyle Relay which placed 5th.
In the team scores, Dowling Catholic of West Des Moines won the Regional Championship with 546.5 points, Ankeny was 2nd with 401.5, and Valley of West Des Moines took 3rd with 322.
Spencer would finish 5th with 213 points, in front of Mason City, Algona, and Hoover of Des Moines.
The Girls State Swimming and Diving Championships will be Friday and Saturday in Marshalltown.
