Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow) — A newly released book by a local author is shining a light on the history of Gillett Grove.

Vickie Treimer, who grew up near Hartley and now lives in Spencer, recently published her newest book titled Iron Horses, Arrowheads, and Pioneers.

During an interview on KICD, Treimer said her interest in writing began at an early age and eventually led her into researching local history.

While researching the book, Treimer discovered Gillett Grove was once a much busier community than many residents might realize today.

She is already working on her next project, a more detailed history of Clay County.

Treimer’s books are available locally through the Clay County Heritage Center and Arts on Grand. She will also hold book signings at the Spencer Public Library on October 10 and the Everly Public Library on October 24.
