Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Boys Soccer team played host to Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji on Monday, the Tigers 3rd game in 4 days.

It took a while for Spencer’s attack to get rolling as they struggled to time up the SLPO High back line.

Romeo Alvarez broke the scoreless tie with a kick from the middle of the penalty area, cashing in with his 3rd goal on the year and giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Spencer held that lead going into the half.

Early in the second half, Spencer had more success with attacks going into the wind. Brewer, Moser, and McCusker all had a number of attempts, but Jerron Stoever continued to have a strong day in the box for SLPO. Mosher finally knocked one through in the match’s 54th minute, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Spencer kept up the onslaught, and Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji would counter by stiffening up their High Line once again to trap Spencer into offsides.

After a little too much contact was dealt out by a Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji defender to Romeo Alvarez, the Spencer Senior would line up for a free kick roughly 30 yards out from the goal. Alvarez delivered a perfect kick, setting up Cayden Brewer to climb the ladder and deliver a powerful, well-placed header past Stoever to extend the Tigers lead to 3 in the 29th minute of action.

Spencer would begin rotating different athletes into the contest from there. The young players kept Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji in check, for the final 10 minutes of action, and Spencer came away with a 3-0 win.

Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji drops to 2-2-1 and take their first loss in NWISL play, going to 1-1-1.

The Tigers are now 4-2 on the year and improve to 3-1 in the Northwest Iowa Soccer League. Spencer will cap off a 4 game in 5 days stretch this afternoon, on the road, against Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
