Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Director of the Iowa Flood Center says Spencer is now on the map as a priority for flood control. Larry Weber says 2024 demonstrated how large the watershed to the North of the community is, and flooding in Spencer is a harbinger for communities downstream.
Weber told the crowd at Wednesday night’s community flood debriefing that had the Missouri River not been low – the destruction would have been even worse.
Several officials Wednesday night said eyewitness reports during future floods are important to augment electronic monitoring.
Larry Weber says the Iowa Flood Center continues to lobby the legislature and federal government for money to enhance river and ground-saturation measuring equipment in the Little Sioux and Ocheyden River watersheds.
