Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer girls and boys’ soccer teams each were on the home pitch Tuesday at the Northwest Iowa Soccer Field after weather on Monday moved the boys contest into town. The opponent was a Northwest Iowa Soccer League foe in Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan/South O’Brien.

The Spencer girls were able to get on the attack from the get-go but couldn’t break through until Iowa’s leader in goals scored, Addison Hoben, knocked a rifle of a kick through in the 12th minute.

Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan/South O’Brien is a group that the Spencer girls have scored well on in the past, but the avalanche didn’t begin until the half’s final 20 minutes.

Avery McEntee hit the next goal for the Tigers, and Freshman Ingrid Gustafson made it 3-0 with a goal less than a minute later.

Gustafson scored her second on the day in the 28th minute to make it 4-0.

The next score, Avery Metcalf delivered a pass that deflected off of an Orab and across the goal line for an Own Goal in the 31st minute. 30 seconds later, Lauren Horst charged up the field to step in front of a well delivered pass and sunk her second goal on the year to make it 6-0 in favor of Spencer.

Next was Addison Hoben for her second goal on the day 90 seconds later to make it 7-0 going into the final 5 minutes of the first half.

Avery Metcalf got her goal in the 36th minute and Lily McWhirter picked up her first career Varsity goal in the 38thgive the Tigers a 9-0 lead going into the half.

It wouldn’t take long in the second half for the Tigers to end the match early, as Lilly Gross scored 55 seconds in, her first goal on the year and giving Spencer a 10-0 win.

The Orabs drop only their second in the last 5 and go to 3-5 on the year with a 2-3-0 NWISL record. Up next will be a home match against West Sioux on Thursday.

The Tigers are now 9-2-0 on the year and 7-0-0 in the Northwest Iowa Soccer League. Spencer has a big weekend on the northwest side of the greater-Des Moines area where they will play in the Dallas Center-Grimes/Urbandale Tournament. The two sides the Tigers will face will be #2 in Class 2A Dallas Center-Grimes on Friday and then #8 in Class 2A North Scott on Saturday.

The Tiger Boys started quick against Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan/South O’Brien in the following match as Romeo Alvarez scored 24 seconds after the opening kick. Team leader in goals scored, Camden Mosher, began his big day with a goal in the 6th minute to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Tigers.

Keegan Musser made it 3-0 off of his 11th minute goal, and Nolan McCusker scored his 4th in the last 2 matches just over a minute later.

Mosher picked up his second goal in the 17th minute as the Tigers extended the lead to 5. Mosher made it a first half hat-trick in the 30th minute and Spencer led 6-0 at the half.

The Tigers looked like they were going to pick up the scoring rate where they left off when Keegan Musser got his second goal on the night, 46 seconds in to the second half, but with a 6-0 lead, Spencer wouldn’t score again until the 77th minute when Sophomore Oscar Beyart made it 7-0 which would be the final score.
