Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Riverview Tennis Courts provided the Spencer Girls Tennis team with a home court against Cherokee in Lakes Conference play.

The Tigers started out with a 10-8 win coming from Abby Crew against Elise Anderson in the first position.

Brynn Merchant rolled past Kadyn Volkert 10-3 in the second position to give Spencer a 2-0 lead.  Allie Ewalt would then make it 3-0 Tigers with a 10-4 dispatch of Sophia Patterson.

Ava Bouchard provided the Braves with their first win in the singles fourth position 10-6 against Jillian Kabrick.

Dakota Lux responded by sealing up the singles matches for the Tigers with a 10-2 win against Lilly Jorgensen in the 5th position.  Kiersten Campbell capped off singles matches with a 10-2 win of her own against Cherokee’s Lola Christensen.

Cherokee’s first position Doubles team of Anderson and Volkert edged out Spencer’s Crew and Ewalt 11-9.

Spencer would take the next two doubles positions though, with Lux and Merchant beating Patterson and Bouchard 10-4 and Kabrick/Campbell going 10-6 against Jorgensen and Christensen.

According to Spencer Coach Bob Schlaeger, the Tiger girls were dealing with some injuries, but others stepped up well.

Spencer’s 7-2 win improves the Tigers to 8-2-1 on the year and 2-0 in Lakes Conference play.
