Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls Soccer team was looking to finish off an undefeated year in Northwest Iowa Soccer League Play Monday night against Unity Christian of Orange City. We brought you the broadcast on News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD.

Unity Christian was able to contain Spencer pretty well in the first half. The Knights were also able to get some attacks into the Spencer Penalty area, usually led by team leader in goals Callie Karhoff, but were unable to penetrate the Spencer back-line further with Maddy McWhirter running down Karhoff pretty consistently.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Addison Hoben started another multiple goal night. Hoben collected her second goal less than 5 minutes later to make it 2-0.

That score would be taken into the halftime break.

Spencer had some trouble controlling the mid-field in the first half but responded with an aggressive approach in the second half, winning multiple tackles in the middle 3rd.

Addison Hoben made it a hat-trick on the day in the 62nd minute to make it 3-0.

Unity Christian nearly responded immediately, but Hannah Moser cleaned up any shot attempt that got past the McWhirter’s or Lilly Gross.

The aggressive Spencer attack led to an avalanche of goals in the 66-to-67-minute range with Ingrid Gustafson scoring her 8th goal on the year, Avery McEntee picking up number 11, and Addison Hoben scoring her 4th on the year to bring her 4th in the State total to 41.

With a comfortable 6-0 lead, the Tigers kept up the pressure, as senior Ana Olson hit double-digits on the year with her 10th goal. Another Senior cashed in on Senior night with Lauren Horst coming up from the mid-field to score her 3rd goal on the season.

Spencer would roll to an 8-0 win on the night.

Unity Christian is now 6-6-1 and 4-2-0 in the Northwest Iowa Soccer League. They will try to bounce back at home on Tuesday against Western Christian of Hull before an all-important match against Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji in which the winner could lock up a 3rd place finish in the league.

The Tigers have now rattled off 4 wins in a row, outscoring opponents 23-0 in those contests, including a tough win over then #8 in the State North Scott, and two previously ranked teams in East of Sioux City and Unity Christian of Orange City.
