Okoboji, Ia (KICD) – The Lakes Conference Cross Country Meet was run at Brooks Golf Club in Okoboji on Monday.
In the Girls Race, Peyton Morey ran 19:57.29 to win the Individual Conference Title. Morey says she was pressed well by Storm Lake’s Silvia Kampbell who took 2nd at 20:14.28.
The rest of the top 10 in order was Cherokee’s Stefi Beisswenger, Spencer’s Ava Morey, Cherokee’s Grace Woodall, Cherokee’s Addyson Wilkie, Spencer’s Alexandria Palmer, Spencer’s Ava Haldin, Cherokee’s Ella Simonsen, and Estherville Lincoln Central’s Rylee Yager.
Spencer edged out Cherokee for the Conference title with 32 points to the Braves 47. Spencer Coach Drew Schiltz talked about the Tigers Conference title performance.
Storm Lake was 3rd at 78, Estherville Lincoln Central took 4th and Spirit Lake 5th.
In the Boys race, Brandon Hughes of Spirit Lake cruised to a time of 16:09.88, winning the individual title. Hughes felt he and his team handled the colder weather well.
The rest of the top 10 in order was Dietrich Dirks of Spirit Lake, Joel Ramirez-Parra of Storm Lake, Jace Hungerford of Spirit Lake, Jacob Mills of Storm Lake, Carter Trautman of Spirit Lake, Rylei Koppie of Spencer, Warren Duitsman of Estherville Lincoln Central, Alexander Ortega of Storm Lake, and Noah Fullhart of Spencer.
Koppie broke down his race for KICD and is looking forward to State Qualifiers.
Cayden Brewer had his best time of the year for Spencer. The Junior ran 18:24.53 to place 14th.
Spirit Lake ran away with the team title, scoring 30 points with their top 4 runners in the top 6. Storm Lake took 2nd with 53, Spencer was 3rd at 68, Cherokee 4th, and Estherville Lincoln Central was 5th.
Schiltz praised Storm Lake’s trajectory and is hoping for a strong State Qualifier for the Boys.
Spencer, along with the rest of the state, await to hear their State Qualifier assignments which will be released this week.
