Spirit Lake, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji and Spencer Girls Tennis teams collided on Tuesday at the Spirit Lake High School Tennis Courts.

It was a close dual from the start. In the first Position matchup, Sydnee Struecker of SL/P/O won 10-4 over Spencer’s Abbey Crew.

Kennedy Graettinger would respond in the 2nd position for the Tigers, picking up a 10-2 win over Cambrie Kleckner, leveling the dual at 1.

Brynn Merchant picked up a win for Spencer in the 3rd Position, topping Sally Androski 10-4.

Allie Ewalt increased the Spencer led to 3-1 in the 4th Position, coming out with a 10-6 win against Lucy Androski.

It was the 5th and 6th Positions that evened it up for Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji going into doubles. Libby Leinbaugh beat Jillian Kabrick 10-3 in the 5th Position with Addy Richter getting past Dakota Lux 10-5 in the 6th Position.

That injected some drama into the Doubles matches with the singles tied at 3.

In the first Position, Kennedy Graettinger and Brynn Merchant combined for the Tigers to beat Sydnee Struecker and Libby Leinbaugh 10-4.

Abbey Crew and Allie Ewalt sealed up the win for Spencer in the second position, winning a tight 11-9 battle over Cambrie Kleckner and Sally Androski.

Olivia Schlachter and Addy Richter of SL/P/O would beat Jillian Kabrick and Dakoda Lux 8-5 in the 3rd Position.

Spencer’s 5-4 win is an important one for the Lakes Conference Dual Team Title Race. The Tigers are now 6-2-1 on the year with a dual against Cherokee coming up on Thursday.

Spener Coach Bob Schlaeger said, “This was a very good early season win…Our players played well with grit…and we need to continue to build off of this win.”

Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji drops to 5-6 on the year and will host Storm Lake on Thursday.
