Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Spencer hosted West of Sioux City Friday night for a homecoming week District Contest.
Spencer took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, getting a 9-yard Touchdown run from Dylan Timmer and a 44-yard explosion from Kam Young.
After forcing a turnover on downs after a long West High drive, Spencer came back with an 11-play drive capped off by a Kam Young Touchdown, giving Spencer a 21-0 lead going in to the locker room.
Spencer Got the ball to start the second half and ripped down the field in under two minutes with Dylan Timmer scoring a 4-yard Touchdown.
After a 3 and out, Spencer scored again on a Kam Young 6 Yard Touchdown, his 3rd of the night. A blocked PAT kept the score at 34-0.
West responded by getting on the board for the first time on the night, as Sophomore Quarterback Tavin Irvine scrambled for a 25-yard Touchdown on 4th and 4. The 2-Point Conversion was unsuccessful, and Spencer led 34-6.
The Tigers made it a 35-point game before the end of the 3rd quarter with Carter Goyette getting his first rushing Touchdown of the year from a yard away.
The Tigers added another Touchdown in the 4th quarter with Jaxon Buum taking it 24 yards, making it 48-6 after the extra point.
Spencer coasted to the 42-point win, snapping a 4-game losing streak and improving to 2-5 and 1-2 in 4A District 1 play.
The Tigers ran for 359 yards on 40 carries. Kam Young had 177 yards and 3 Touchdowns, as he is now up to 13 Touchdowns on the season. Dylan Timmer had another strong night running the football with 13 carries for 87 yards and a pair of Touchdowns.
Tavin Irvine had 210 yards of Total offense for the Wolverines tonight and a rushing Touchdown. West High falls to 1-6 on the year and 0-3 in 4A District 1 play.
Spencer prepares for a road trip to Storm Lake next week while West will head south to play Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
