Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Spencer hosted the Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament Saturday in the Fieldhouse. MMCRU, Okoboji/HMS, Sibley-Ocheyedan, and Spirit Lake/Park attended from the KICD area.

At 106, Caden Gress of Spencer took 2nd.

Spirit Lake/Park’s Tyson Dewall won 113.

Chase Franklin of Okoboji/HMS took 1st at 120 with Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Jackson Van Der Sloot finishing 3rd.

At 126, Spencer’s Easton Beehler was 2nd.

Tyce Hanson of Okoboji/HMS placed 3rd at 132.

Okoboji/HMS’s Brennan Baschke was 3rd at 138.

At 144, Kayne Julius of Sibley-Ocheyedan finished 1st with Parker Glassmaker of MMCRU 2nd, and Jerome Hollingsworth of Spencer 3rd. Julius knew he could beat Glassmaker in the Finals match if he wrestled well.

Spencer’s Wyatt Heying won 150 with Okoboji/HMS’s Dillon Wittrock taking 3rd.

Levi Johnson of Spencer won at 157 with Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Aidan Beyer 2nd. Johnson says a lot of the work he’s put in in the room is paying dividends.

Spencer Coach David Doebel talked about Johnson’s dedication to reaching the goals he set for himself at the beginning of the year.

Spencer’s Cohen Roth was 2nd at 165.

At 175, Easton Beyer of Sibley-Ocheyedan placed 1st with Nathaniel Franklin of Okoboji/HMS 2nd. Beyer had a lot of confidence coming into the Tournament.

Spencer’s Temi Otaniyi won at 190 with Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Dominic Marco 2nd. The two KICD area wrestlers had a hard-fought battle that came to Otaniyi having to ride out the clock.

Coach Doebel says Otanyiyi is a strong wrestler.

Tallen Lorenzen of Spencer was 2nd at 215.

At 285, Okoboji/HMS’s Keyshawn Smith placed 3rd.

Jackson County Central won the team title with 223 points, pulling away from Spencer in the final matches who finished with 197, and West Lyon took 3rd at 181.5.

Okoboji/HMS was 4th, Sibley-Ocheyedan 5th, Spirit Lake/Park 7th, and MMCRU was 10th.

Doebel says the Tigers continue to grow in the young season.
