Spencer, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — Local firefighters were called to a house fire in Spencer mid-morning on Saturday.
The Spencer Fire Department arrived on scene at 517 9th Avenue West at approximately 10:25am. The house was engulfed in flames, the pickup in the driveway was also on fire. There was fire exposure to another home directly to the south. Additional Spencer Fire units and the Everly Fire & Rescue were paged for assistance.
The owner was home at the time and was able to escape without injury. There were two pets lost in the fire.
The house and pickup sustained extreme damage and both are considered a total loss. The cause of the fire was determined to be improperly discarded cigarettes in the trash.
Assisting the Spencer Fire Department and Everly Fire & Rescue at the scene, were members of the Spencer Police Department, Hospital Paramedics and Spencer Municipal Utilities.
