Sioux City IA, (Northwest Iowa Now)– A Spencer man has been sentenced for possession with intent to distribute Cocaine.

On July 26th 42-year-old Leon Scott Banks of Spencer was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

On February 20th Banks pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine within 1000 feet of a protected location. Evidence at the hearing showed that law enforcement learned that banks possessed firearms as a felon and was distributing controlled substances from his residence in Spencer.

Law enforcement then gained a search warrant for his residence which was across the street from Lincoln elementary school in Spencer.  While searching his residence law enforcement found more than a half-pound of cocaine marijuana containers of THC edibles a digital scale marijuana ammunitions a handgun with ammunition and $16,000 cash.

Banks was sentenced to 37 months imprisonment and six years of supervised release following imprisonment.  Banks is being held in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
