Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Iowa National Guard retiree Duane Bates gave the keynote address at Spencer’s Memorial Day program.

Bates told the crowd we honor the dead by the way we treat the living.

Bates says future generations must be educated that liberty is not a natural situation, but a gift purchased at a great price.
