Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Area Swim team hosted their first home meet of the season Thursday night in the Jeffery S. Olsen Memorial Pool at the Spencer Family YMCA. Carroll and Fort Dodge came to town for a couple of duals.

Spencer’s Halle Sears, Ella Kasperbauer, Lily Gross, and Ava Vogt combined to win the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:55.48.

Sears would pick up an individual win in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:12.91. She would come back a couple of events later with a win in the 100 Yard Butterfly, clocking 59.98. Sears was happy to be in the home pool.

The Tigers picked up the win in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with Gross, Kasperbauer, Vogt, and Sears hitting the wall at 1:46.48.

Gross went 1:07.88 to win the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

The Tigers wrapped up the evening with yet another win in the Relays with Ava Vogt, Emily Schmidt, Ella Kasperbauer, and Lily Gross clocking 4:10.05 in the 400 Yard Freestyle. Kasperbauer was happy with the relay performances.

Coach Amie Lawrence feels Spencer’s trajectory looks good at this point in the year.

Not only did Spencer sweep the relays, but they had some success with their B teams and JV swimmers. Young swimmers have been an extra boost for a Tiger team that graduated a ton in 2023. Lily Gross is a returning State Qualifier for the Tigers, and says the team is being pushed well by their head coach.

Lawrence says the depth has been huge.

Spencer went 2-0 in the duals, beating Fort Dodge 54-40 and Carroll 83-6. Fort Dodge would beat Carroll 79-10.
