West Okoboji, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — State of Iowa Auditor Rob Sand released a report this week on a reaudit on the City of West Okoboji.

The reaudit was requested as a result of concerns with the former City Administrator, including unpaid utilities, improper use of the city’s credit card and payroll, and reimbursements during the period of August 1, 2019 through June 2023.

Sand reported unsupported charges on the city’s credit card of more than $11,000. It was also noted the City Administrator received two unsupported reimbursement checks totaling $551.78 and an unpaid utility balance of $1,476.

That state recommended the city strengthen their internal controls and operations and enforcing policies and procedures that would allow employees to get approval prior to use of city credit cards.

The city has responded favorably to the included recommendations. A copy of the audit report can be found the Auditor of State website.
