West Des Moines, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – After 3 years of sanctioned wrestling and 1 year of enrollment-based classifications, Iowa Girls Wrestling continues to evolve.

In a Wednesday Press Release, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced they unanimously approved the implementation of a girl’s wrestling state dual tournament for the 2026-2027 season.

IGHSAU Executive Director Erin Gerlich said, “The impressive growth of girls wrestling in Iowa along with more schools being able to field a full roster of wrestlers in every weight class shows that girls wrestling is ready for a dual team tournament.”

The Press release states that the Dual meet will take place before the state qualifying and state individual tournaments. The tentative date for the dual state qualifying meets is January 18th of 2027, with the State dual tournament on January 22nd of 2027. The number of classes and state meet venue will be determined at a later date.
