Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Acting Spencer City Manager Kevin Robinson announced additional help from the state of Iowa toward flood recovery Monday night.

The Governor’s office is offering to use state Covid-relief funds for a bridge project in Spencer, so the city can use the 1.37 million dollars THEY had pledged for other uses: Specifically for rental units, with the remainder to be targeted toward the downtown business district.

The 1.37 million dollars freed up for the city would have to be contracted by the end of the calendar year. Robinson says funneling it to the Spencer Economic Development Corporation would fulfill that obligation.

Robinson also reported that an engineering study has come up with 4 to 5 million dollars in damage to the water plant, and perhaps now is the time to make upgrades.

And Robinson informed the city council Monday night that the consultant’s plans for the aquatic center are nearing completion and should be available in January.
