Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — As of July 1, Iowa is now a hands-free state when it comes to driving a vehicle.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull is busy spreading the news today visiting local media.
Krull recommends using voice-commands, or just safely pulling off the road to a parking spot to check the phone, because if police see a phone in your hand
State county and local law enforcement will be in full force over the Independence Day holiday, and Krull says it’s all about safety.
Iowa officials are also urging boaters to stay safe, and the DNR is joining “Operation Dry Water” from July 4th to the 6th. Alcohol contributes to over 50% of Iowa’s boating fatalities. Beyond sobriety on the water, ensure trailer lights and equipment work, and carry essential safety gear, like a life jacket for each person, a horn or whistle, and a charged fire extinguisher.
