STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow.com)The Storm Lake City Council wrapped up its regular meeting with proclamations and a unanimous vote to keep a familiar face on the council.
During the regular city council meeting on Monday, December 15, Mayor Mike Porsch took time to recognize Mike Nebbit for 12 years of service with the Storm Lake Fire Department, extending his appreciation as Nebbit retires at the end of the year.
Porsch made a second proclamation honoring Firefighter Daniel Ramirez-Sanchez for outstanding volunteerism in 2025. Ramirez-Sanchez responded to more than 200 calls and completed over 100 hours of training.
The meeting also included a key appointment. Current council member Matt Ricklefs will remain with the council after a unanimous vote to appoint him to fill the two-year vacancy created by Mayor-elect Meg McKeon’s transition from council to mayor. Ricklefs abstained from the vote.
Ricklefs did not seek re-election in November, telling the council during candidate reviews last week that he was exploring a potential relocation opportunity.
