Storm Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — According to the Storm Lake Police Department, police were called to a residence for a belated report of cash and various jewelry items valued at approximately $100,000 taken from the home on October 21st, 2024.

Storm Lake Police launched an investigation into the incident and identified the suspect as 42-year-old Shari Bents of Rossie, who was identified as a caretaker at the victim’s residence.

Storm Lake Police Department launched multiple search warrants on October 24th at properties connected to Bents in Rosie, Peterson, and Albert city.

On October 24th Bents was charged by the Storm Lake Police Department for first degree theft a Class C felony; ongoing criminal conduct a Class B felony; and was booked into the Buena vista county jail on $250,000 bond.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office the Clay County Sheriff’s and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
