STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A Storm Lake man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly threatening residents and attempting to force his way into a home.

Officers with the Storm Lake Police Department were called to a residence in the 700 block of Cayuga Street at approximately 8:15 a.m. on July 8 in response to reports of a person attempting to break into a home.

Upon arrival, officers found 53-year-old Philavanh Satibanjong of Storm Lake in the driveway of the residence. Police allege he was armed with a pickaxe and attempting to gain entry through a rear door of the home.

After being confronted by officers, Satibanjong allegedly surrendered the pickaxe and was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators allege Satibanjong arrived at the residence and threatened to kill the occupants. Authorities say he first attempted to force entry through the front door using a knife. When that attempt failed, police allege he entered a detached garage on the property, took a pickaxe, and used it in another attempt to gain access to the home through a rear entrance.

Satibanjong was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail and charged with Attempted Murder, Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Harassment in the First Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Trespass, Second Offense.

He was held on a $68,780 bond.
