Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Public safety in Storm Lake experienced a busy May, as both the Police and Fire Departments responded to a high volume of calls across the city.

The Storm Lake Police Department handled a total of 2,623 service calls last month. Their top three reasons for being dispatched were motorist assists, with 518 calls, 9-1-1 calls, at 70 incidents, and 60 animal complaints.

Meanwhile, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 24 incidents in May. The most frequent types of calls for firefighters included 6 “Good Intent” calls, which often involve smoke scares or requests for assistance. They also responded to 5 rescue calls and 4 false alarms.
