STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the City of Storm Lake are encouraging residents and visitors to help keep outdoor spaces clean by offering free reusable litter clean up bags.

These mesh bags are lightweight, quick-drying, and easy to carry in a kayak, bike bag, picnic basket, tacklebox, car trunk, or backpack. Each person can pick up two free bags at Storm Lake City Hall, located at 620 Erie Street. Other distribution sites are available statewide.

The reusable bag program is part of the “Keep It Clean, Keep It Fun” Campaign, which began 14 years ago. Since the campaign’s launch, more than 30,000 bags have been distributed to promote cleaner lakes, rivers, and parks throughout Iowa. Storm Lake is currently one of only two communities in Northwest Iowa participating in the program.

The goal is to encourage people to pick up litter as they enjoy the outdoors, helping to protect the environment and preserve the beauty of local natural areas. For more information, contact Storm Lake City Hall, or visit the Iowa DNR website.
