Storm Lake, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — Seven departments were called to a fire at Buz’s Salvage Yard at 856 560th Street three miles North of Storm Lake Sunday. There was a significant amount of damage, and one firefighter was injured with a deep cut probably necessity stitches.
The fire was reported around 12:30am. Enroute the Storm Lake crew could see flames from three miles away and called for backup. Eventually Albert City, Alta, Marathon, Newell, and Sioux Rapids were dispatched. The Cherokee Fire Department brought a truck and six firefighters to cover Storm Lake in case another fire broke out.
One building was destroyed, a second building received significant damage, and an unknown amount of scrap was lost. Fire Chief Glenn Schlesser says a full investigation is being conducted, but it appears a burn pile had not been completely extinguished.
