SPENCER, Iowa – The Clay County Board of Supervisors voted 2-1 Tuesday to approve a $100,000 revolving loan for a new childcare center at Riverside Church. The 10-year, 1.5% loan passed despite objections regarding the financial risk to taxpayers.

Supervisor Barry Anderson cast the lone dissenting vote, arguing against the county taking a “second position” lien behind Northwest Bank, the primary lender.

With Supervisors Courtney DeLoss and Allen Batschelet recusing themselves due to conflicts of interest, the motion to approve the $100,000 revolving loan passed in a 2-1 vote. Supervisor Barry Anderson cast the sole dissenting vote, reiterating his concerns about the county’s position as a secondary lender behind the bank. The board is scheduled to reconvene for its next meeting on Tuesday, December 23 at the Clay County Administration Building in Spencer.
