Humboldt, IA (KICD) — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department believes they have the man who stole a flat-bed pickup truck and led them on a chase that ended in Pocahontas County earlier this month.
Back on August 6th a Deputy started to follow the vehicle for speeding and reckless driving. When it failed to stop Pocahontas County authorities were alerted and put stop sticks along highway 3, but the pickup left the road and drove over a mile through corn and soybean field until it got stuck in a dredge ditch. The driver fled on foot and was never found.
Items inside the vehicle have led authorities to conclude the truck was stolen by 39 year old Daniel Coonfield from Des Moines.
He was arrested last week on unrelated charges in Hamilton County, then transferred to Humboldt county. He faces charged of vehicle theft from Story County, eluding law enforcement officials in Humboldt County, and charges in Pocahontas County for the damage he did to the farm fields.
