Holstein, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Several KICD area schools were at the 1A Cross Country State Qualifying site in Holstein, hosted by Ridge View.
In the girl’s race, Nora Peterson was the winner with a time of 19:02.93. Sioux Central’s Linnea Bloom advances to the State meet with a time of 20:33.1 to place 3rd. Alta-Aurelia’s Hayden Berkland ran 20:36.06 to place 4th with her teammate Breyer Anderson in 5th at 20:48.07, each moving on to the State Meet. Mareni Brabec of Newell-Fonda is a qualifier with a time of 20:53.44 in 6th. West Bend-Mallard’s Tyra Schupbach took 7th, qualifying with a time of 21 minutes point 47 seconds. Newell-Fonda picked up a second State Qualifier from Danika Meyer who took 8th with a time of 21:11.32. Sioux Central’s Marley Madsen qualified as an individual, placing 9th at 21:13.73. Finally, Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Amadelaid Benitez moves on to Fort Dodge, taking 10th at 21:16.84.
Alta-Aurelia took the team title with 49 points, edging out conference foes Sioux Central in 2nd with 51. Both teams qualify for the State Meet. West Bend-Mallard was 4th, Newell-Fonda 5th, Emmetsburg 7th, and GTRA 10th.
For the Boys race, Ogden’s Jude Benbow won with a time of 16:50.91. Sioux Central’s Lucos Wernimont took 2nd at 16:52.33, followed by Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Ben Byers in 3rd with 17:23.98, and Alta-Aurelia’s Jacob Launderville in 4th at 17:40.27. All three move on to the State Meet. Jack christian of Sioux Central would finish in State Qualifying position in 6th with 17:48.68, his teammate Leighton Sippel is also on to State with an 8th place finish of 17:52.08. Cale Reiter of Sibley-Ocheyedan qualifies with a 10th place finish, clocking 17:57.58.
Ogden won the team title with 34 points, Sioux Central also moves on to the State Meet as a team, taking 2nd with 59 points. Sibley-Ocheyedan was 3rd, Alta-Aurelia 5th, Harltey-Melvin-Sanborn 6th, South O’Brien 7th, MMCRU 9th, and Newell-Fonda placed 10th.
