Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Spencer played host to Cherokee Tuesday night in the Fieldhouse at Spencer High School for the two teams second meeting this season.

The Cherokee girls got off to a ridiculous start, outscoring Spencer 26-12 in the first quarter, a deficit that Spencer struggled to recover for the remainder of the game.

The Tigers cut in to the lead in the second quarter after a chaotic 8-minutes with several turnovers, lose balls, and fouls.  Spencer trailed 34-25 going into the halftime break.

Spencer got the score within 7 early in the 3rd quarter, but turnovers led to a big run for Cherokee to extend their lead to 15 going into the 4th.

From there, the Braves responded to the Tigers best offensive quarter by making the necessary shots to keep Spencer at an arms distance and came away with a 67-53 win.

Cherokee was led in scoring by Addy Wolfswinkel, who hit 4 3-pointers on her way to 28 points.  The Braves are now 10-3 on the year and 4-1 in the Lakes Conference.

Calista Frankenstein had 18 points for Spencer in the loss.  The Tigers drop to 7-6 this year and 1-3 in the Lakes.

The Cherokee Boys used the three-point shot and a slow end to the quarter by the Tigers to lead 20-11 after the first.

The Spencer defense locked in in the second quarter, holding Cherokee to only 7 in that 8-minute frame.  The Tiger offense couldn’t get going though, and Cherokee led 27-18 at the half.

The Braves had another strong offensive quarter in the 3rd to grow their lead to 15 going into the 4th and drug the pace of play down to a crawl in the 4th to cruise to a 57-39 win over Spencer.

It was Landon Stowater leading Cherokee with 14 points on the evening.  Coy Lewis, the Braves leading scorer on the year, had to sit much of the first half due to foul trouble, and scored all 11 of his points in the 2nd.  Cherokee is now 10-2 this season and 4-1 in the Lakes Conference.

Dylan Timmer paced the Tigers with 13 in the loss.  Spencer falls to 2-10 this year and 1-3 in the Lakes.
