Mason City, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls and Boys Basketball teams hit the road on Tuesday to play Mason City.
The Spencer Girls trailed 13-8 after the 1st quarter and were able to pull within 2 at halftime after outscoring the Riverhawks 10-7 in the 2nd.
Spencer scored their highest in the 3rd quarter, but so did Mason Cit, as the Riverhawks posted 25 while the Tigers only mustered 12.
The 4th quarter was a push and Mason City coasted to the 53-38 win.
The Riverhawks were led by Machaela Trask who scored 19. Zaria Falls would add 13 off the bench for Mason City.
Sydnee Hopkins paced the Tigers in the loss with 13 points.
Spencer drops to 4-6 while Mason City improves to 6-4 on the year.
The Spencer Tiger Boys were shell-shocked in the 1st quarter to the tune of 25 points by Mason City.
The Tigers were down by as much as 21, before chipping the Riverhawk lead down to 9 going into the locker room.
Spencer wasn’t able to get out to the start they needed in the 3rd quarter, and trailed by 15 going into the final 8 minutes.
The Tigers were able to get the score within 6 down the stretch, but Mason City closed it out and picked up the 68-61 win.
The Riverhawks were led in scoring by Ty Sanchez-Evans, who scored all 21 points in the first half. Drayden Witt and Jameer Falls each were in double-digits for Mason City.
Cael Bruning led Spencer in the loss with 25.
Spencer’s win streak ends at 6 games and drop to 6-2.
Mason City improves to 5-3.
The Mason City Basketball teams will host East of Waterloo on July 10th while Spencer travels to Spirit Lake on Thursday to open up Conference play.
