Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls and Boys Basketball teams hosted Fort Dodge on Friday night in the Fieldhouse.
The Spencer Girls started off strong on both sides of the floor, outscoring Fort Dodge 13-0 in the first quarter.
The Second quarter was sloppier for the Tiger, but they still managed to pull together a nice defensive 8-minutes and led 24-5 going into the half.
The Tiger offense really opened up in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Fort Dodge 25-2, and coasted to a 55-19 win.
Fort Dodge falls to 1-3 on the year and were led in scoring by LJ Maehl with 11.
Spencer was led in scoring by Kennedy Graettinger who hit 5 three pointers on her way to 19 points. Sydnee Hopkins and Calista Frankenstein also were in double-figures as Spencer improves to 3-1 on the year.
The Spencer Boys’ offense got off to another slow start on Friday night, getting outscored 9-7 by Fort Dodge in the first quarter.
The Dodgers were able to grow that lead going into the locker room after outscoring Spencer 15-11 and led 24-11 at the break.
Fort Dodge got their lead as high as 18 in the second half when the Spencer offense started to click with their defense. The Tigers chipped the Dodger lead down to 6, but Fort Dodge was able to get some big free throws from Taevon Feeley in the final minute to seal the game and give the Dodgers a 46-39 win.
Spencer is now 0-3 on the year with Foster Roos leading the scoring charge with 20 points.
Fort Dodge only had 3 scorers in the win, but 3 of them were in double figures with Feeley, Hayden Zuspann, and Tytrell Mosley. Zuspann hit 6 three pointers in the win on his way to 20 points. Fort Dodge improves to 1-2 on the year.
The Dodgers are back home on Monday against Humboldt while Spencer travels on Monday to Emmetsburg.
