Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls Wrestling team opened up the 2025-2026 season with a Triangular Dual Meet against Denison-Schleswig and Ridge View.
The night started off with the Tigers taking on Denison-Schleswig. Spencer collected 18 points from 3 open weight classes by the Monarchs and Denison-Schleswig was able to get 6 points from one uncontested weight class. There were 4 open classes shared by each team.
Jada Mingus-Alfaro picked up Spencer’s first matchup win in a Major Decision against Tricia Collins at 115. 120 saw Spencer’s Rylee Nehman pick up a win by Fall against Alma Barroso of Denison-Schleswig. In the 155lb class, Spencer’s Bailey Schuster won by Fall against Giana Garcia of Denison-Schleswig. The Tigers got another win by fall from Abigail Young at 170 over Emelie Martinez. The Monarchs only matchup win came at 190 where Gracen Plagge pinned Jill Hoffard of Spencer. The Tigers picked up the 39-18 win.
Later that night, Spencer took on Ridge View in a close dual. The Tigers got 12 points from two open weight classes by the Raptors, and Ridge View picked up 24 points on 4 open Spencer classes. Spencer got the first matchup win as Jada Mingus-Alfaro pinned Eden Ferrusea of Ridge View at 115. The Raptors picked up a win in the 125lb class as Tegan Robertson pinned Spencer’s Rylee Nehman. The Tigers fired back at 140 with Kyiah Logan winning by fall over Lainey Buckendahl. At 155, Bailey Schuster of Spencer picked up a win by fall over Meleigha Buckendahl. That was followed up in 170 with Abigail Young winning by fall for the Tigers over Ridge View’s Bailey Blume.
The score was tied at 36 going into 235, and Ridge View’s Gracelyn Thompson pinned Spencer’s Jill Hofferd to give the Raptors a 42-36 win.
Spencer starts the year at 1-1 in dual action while Denison-Schleswig leaves 0-2, and Ridge View is off to a 2-0 start.
