Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – A shorthanded roster and 2A’s #8 ranked team were a bad combination for Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in Tuesday’s Girls Northwest Iowa Soccer League contest in Spencer.
The Nighthawks were down four players from their varsity roster, including both goalkeepers. Coach Shawn Netjes opted to move Defender Bryanna Garcia into the goal as well as not only elevate 3 players from the Varsity squad but start those 3.
The roster shortages were evident early and often. The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of play. Addison Hoben had 2 goals, Avery Metcalf 2, and Avery McEntee one in that time frame.
Spencer would extend that lead to 10 in the next 10 minutes with Hoben netting a couple more, Avery Metcalf making it a hat-trick on the day, Halle Sears cashing in from the top of the penalty area, and Maddy McWhirter coming up from the back line to score her first goal of the year.
With the lead at 10, the clock began continuously running for the final 20 minutes of the first half.
Addison Hoben and Ana Olsen would each pick up a goal in those next 20 minutes, winding the clock down and ending the game early for a 12-0 mercy rule win for the Tigers.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley falls to 0-6 on the year and 0-2 in the Northwest Iowa Soccer League. Next up for the nighthawks is a Tuesday contest after the holiday break against MOC-Floyd Valley in NWISL action.
Addison Hoben scored 5 goals and Avery Metcalf 3 in the win for Spencer as they improve to 5-1 on the year and 5-0 in the Northwest Iowa Soccer League. The Tigers will be back on Tuesday to host Sioux Center in NWISL play.
