Sioux Rapids, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Volleyball team traveled to Sioux Rapids on Monday night to take on Sioux Central.

It was pink out night, as Sioux Central was raising money for the local hospitals to fight cancer. Pregame ceremonies centered around breast cancer with a few different speakers giving some information. Several silent auctions were held to raise money.

In the match itself, Spencer was able to jump out to a 1 set to 0 lead. The Tigers were getting contributions from multiple hitters with Addison Hoben out with injury.

That is Spencer Coach Tara Hauschen. The Tigers dug a pretty deep hole in set 2, and despite a strong comeback effort, fell short 25-23 as Sioux Central claimed set 2. Spencer would have some tough stretches throughout the night. Libero Lauren Horst talked about how they got through it, and what she was seeing from the Rebel side.

The Tigers would get out to a really good start in set 3 and end up winning that set to go up 2-1.

In set 3, the Spencer hitting was at a really strong spot, especially from Kiera Brown, who strung together multiple kills in the set. Madison Steven was distributing all night and was very strong up front for the Tigers.

Spencer went on to win set 4 and claim their first non-tournament win of the season 3-1 in their first opportunity as they improve to 7-10.

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Carroll for a Tournament. Sioux Central drops to 0-6 and will be at GTRA on Thursday.
