SIOUX CENTER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A routine traffic stop in Sioux Center has resulted in drug charges for a 20-year-old Sheldon man.
On the evening of Thursday, July 3, police pulled over a 1991 Pontiac Bonneville in the 1900 block of South Main Avenue due to a cracked windshield. The driver was identified as Colton Dean Vande Brake of Sheldon.
According to police, Vande Brake appeared noticeably nervous and gave conflicting accounts of his travel plans. His statements also contradicted those of the vehicle’s passenger.
Due to the suspicious behavior, a prior drug-related history, and refusal to allow a vehicle search, officers deployed a K-9 unit. The dog alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle. Officers discovered THC wax in the trunk.
Vande Brake was arrested without incident and charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance.
