Lake Park, IA (KICD) — Lake Park is now connected to the rest of the Dickinson County trail system.
Trail Director Erin Reed says it’s been a goal since the railroad was abandoned. The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation stepped in to purchase the right-of-way in 2009, and the trail association has slowly been racking up donations and grants to purchase it for their own, and then to pave it. The final stretch of what is officially named The Tatonka Ska Trail was completed this summer.
It will be dedicated Labor Day with a ribbon-cutting and small, informal ceremony in downtown Lake Park at 8am with a ride to Spirit Lake and back to follow.
