SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Two men were arrested following a high-speed motorcycle chase through Spencer and into Clay County Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Spencer Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop for speeding involving two motorcyclists on June 16th near Grand Avenue and 1st Street.
Both riders fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit through parts of Spencer and into the county at speeds exceeding 140 miles per hour.
The chase ended when one of the motorcycles, driven by 22-year-old Tristan Russell of Spencer, collided with a police vehicle. Russell allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was tased and taken into custody.
Russell was charged with eluding (a Class D felony), driving under suspension, and multiple traffic violations.
The second rider, identified as 21-year-old Chase Landen Cook of Winterset, also fled and was apprehended about an hour later near the Reston Inn.
Cook was charged with eluding, driving without a license, and additional traffic offenses.
Both individuals are being held at the Clay County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
