STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A routine traffic stop in Storm Lake led to drug charges for two women from Cherokee.
At approximately 4:00 a.m. on July 6, a Storm Lake Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Northwestern Drive and West Milwaukee Avenue for a minor traffic violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of marijuana.
A following probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 1.5 ounces of marijuana, THC products, and other drug paraphernalia. The occupants of the vehicle, identified as Lilly Weier, 19, and Hannah Munoz, 31, both of Cherokee, were taken into custody without incident.
Weier faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and hemp inhalation, both serious misdemeanors, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Munoz was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance—second offense—and hemp inhalation, both serious misdemeanors.
Both Weier and Munoz were also charged with failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a Class D felony.
