The Iowa High School State Cross Country Championships were run at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge on Friday and Saturday.

Class 3A Girls started things off Friday at 10:30.

Marissa Ferebee was the individual State Champion, running a State Record time of 16:30.9. Pella would take the top 3 spots, all running sub 18:30 times.

Spencer’s Peyton Morey would run a time of 19:43.4 to place 34th. Silvia Kampbell of Storm Lake took 49th, running a time of 20:01.7.

Pella won the Class 3A State Title as a team with 23 points, comfortably in front of second place Sioux Center’s 142 and 3rd place Mount Vernon-Lisbon’s 145.

The Class 3A Boys race was ran at 11:15 on Friday. Quentin Nauman of Western Dubuque was the winner, breaking the 15-minute barrier with a time of 14:59.6. Storm Lake’s Joel Ramirez-Parra took 26th with time of 16:40.3.

Spencer’s Rylei Koppie would finish 87th with a time of 17:36.7.

Gilbert dominated for the Boys team title with 33, Des Moines Christian was 2nd at 78, and Pella took 3rd with 92.

Class 1A Girls started off Saturday at 10:30. St. Albert of Council Bluffs’ Lili Denton won with a time of 17:59.3. Nora Peterson of Alta-Aurelia finished 2nd at 18:28.5. West Bend-Mallard’s Tyra Schupbach clocked 19:26 flat to place 11th. Sioux Central’s Linnea Bloom took 26th at 20:07.1. Danika Meyer of Newell-Fonda placed 38th at a time of 20:21.2. It was Sioux Central’s Marley Madsen in 47th with a time of 20:34.5. Not to far behind her was Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Amadelaid Benitez with a time of 20:41.5. Breyer Anderson of Alta-Aurelia took 54th at 20:43.8. Mareni Brabec ran 20:46.7 for Newell-Fonda to finish 56th. Hayden Berkland of Alta-Aurelia was 63rd at 20:59.6. Sioux Central’s Nora Christian ran 21:14.3 to finish 71st. Karina Bloom of Sioux Central went 21:42.2 to place 86th.

Earlham won the 1A Girls State title with 91 points, Madrid was 2nd with 109 and Treynor was 3rd at 172.

Sioux Central placed 6th as a team with 181, just in front of their Twin Lakes Conference Rivals Alta-Aurelia with 192.

The Class 1A Boys began at 11:15 on Saturday.

North Iowa’s Gavin Grunhovd was 1st with a time of 15:57.5 in front of Woodbine’s Gunner Wagner in 2nd with 16:05.2 and Maquoketa Valley’s Matthew Schaul in 3rd with 16:06.2. Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Ben Byers earned All-State Honors with a time of 16:26 to place 7th. Lucos Wernimont of Sioux Central was 14th with a time of 16:34.8. Alta-Aurelia’s Jacob Launderville finished 30th with time of 17:04.5. Jack Christian of Sioux Central took 40th with a time of 17:21. Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Cale Reiter was 52nd at 17:28.3. Lucas Braun of MMCRU would take 73rd at 17:44.9. Leighton Sippel ran 17:48 for Sioux Central, placing 79th.

Lake Mills was the State Champion of Class 1A with 88 points, Ankeny Christian was 2nd at 132, and Woodbine finished 3rd with 144. Sioux Central took 8th as a team with 211 points.

The Class 2A Girls took off at 2:00.

The State Champion was Noelle Steins with a time of 18:12.8. Laura Struck of Van Meter finished 2nd with 18:31.8 and Mckenna Montgomery of Albia took 3rd at 18:43.4.

Cherokee’s Grace Woodall would finish 64th with a time of 21:07.8. Cherokee teammates Stefi Beiswenger and Addyson Wilkie went 21:40.2 and 21:40.6 to finish 88th and 89th respectively. Ella Simonsen of Cherokee would take 98th at 21:58.4.

The 2A State Title for Girls went to Mid-Prairie with 84 points. Unity Christian of Orange City took 2nd with 92 and Van Meter was 3rd at 114.

The Weekend wrapped up with the Class 2A Boys race at 2:45.

Emerson Vokes of Grundy Center won the individual title with a time of 15:37.5. Alex Torres of Vinton-Shellsburg took 2nd at 15:55.3, a toe in front of Spirit Lake’s Brandon Hughes who took 3rd at 15:55.4.

Dietrich Dirks of Spirit Lake was 10th at 16:23.8. Evan Osler of Okoboji took 17th at 16:46.3. Sheldon’s Malakai Vermeer was 34th at 17:09.6. Michael Wassenaar was 56th for Sheldon with a time of 17:30.4, just in front of Okoboji’s Trigg Heimdal with 17:31.3 in 57th. Spirit Lake’s Carter Trautman was 65th with 17:39. Warren Duitsman of Estherville Lincoln Central finished 72nd with a time of 17:47.5. Tyson Fear of Okoboji was 74th at 17:47.8. Sheldon’s Lewis Schaeffer took 78th at 17:51.8, getting in front of Okoboji’s Lane Larson in 79th at 17:52.9. Oliver Thompson of Spirit Lake would finish 96th with a time of 18:11.3.

The Class 2A Boys State Champion was Oelwein with 113 points. Mid-Prairie was 2nd with 128 and Unity Christian of Orange City took 3rd with 152, beating out Denver in 4th with the 6th runner tiebreaker. Spirit Lake was 9th with 196, Okoboji 12th at 241, and Sheldon placed 15th at 292.
