Spencer / Spirit Lake (Northwestiowanow.com) — Extremely dry conditions caused two other fires Friday.

Friday morning the Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to a grassfire North of the Eleanor Bedell State Park on the East side of East Lake Okoboji, where a controlled burn got out of control. Fire Chief Pat Daly says they were on the scene for about an hour in the morning, then got called back to the same location in the afternoon for about half an hour.

Also a carelessly discarded cigarette apparently caused a grass fire in Spencer Friday night. Firefighters were dispatched to 1108 3rd Avenue West around 8:30. Assistant Chief Mark Stover tells Northwestiowanow.com the fire was out upon arrival, but had burned an electrical line to the home’s air conditioning unit and caused damage to the vinyl siding.
