Arnolds Park, IA (KICD) — Overnight the Iowa Great Lakes returned to a busy resort town over the weekend. Flood waters have receded to the point that speed limits were removed. Boats could be observed on the lakes, several hospitality businesses reported their best weekend of the year, and the weekend concerts at Arnolds Park Amusement Park – including a paid show Sunday night – were packed.
The Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce told KICD News yesterday that they had a record number of registered participants for the 47th annual University of Okoboji Homecoming Races. Program Director Morgan Strauss says over 11 hundred participants from 27 states and 3 countries competed in the Triathlon, Marathon, or 5k and 10k races Saturday. Next year’s event is scheduled for the same weekend.
The organizers of the annual U of O Point to Point Swim, however, has announced the event that had been scheduled for August 3rd is being cancelled this year. YMCA of the Okoboji’s Director Andrew Fisher says high water and floating debris are creating too many safety concerns. Individuals who already registered can get a refund.
