Pomeroy, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation released new information on the New Year’s shooting in Pomeroy.

They tell Northwestiowanow.com that 22 year old Nicholas Benedict – who appears to list both Fort Dodge and Rolfe as his permanent address – has been charged with Willful injury causing serious injury, Reckless use of a firearm resulting in serious injury, going armed with intent, Assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, and Obstruction of prosecution.

He is being held at the Carroll County Jail is is scheduled to appear in court back in Calhoun County next Friday.

County officials indicate there was an altercation at a Pomeroy apartment Tuesday that escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Two individuals appear to have been shot, with the Sheriff’s department telling newsgathering organizations the two victims are expected to survive.

There was a standoff in Manson following the situation in Pomeroy where two individuals were taken into custody. One is believed to be Benedict, the other has not been identified.
