Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) –The flood recovery is still impacting many families, and according to Dawn Dahm with Upper Des Moines Opportunity, there is a high need for donations right now.
Dahm also says the low-income Home Energy Assistance program, or LIHEAP, will begin accepting applications for assistance starting November 1, 2024. LIHEAP is a federally funded program that assists low-income homeowners and renters with a one time payment towards their heat utility.
Dahm says to remember to use their temporary location at 223 West 7th Street in Spencer right now, as they also lost their offices to the flooding. She’s hopeful they will be back in their permanent location on Tenth Street soon.
UDMO is also now taking applications for Adopt a Family and Santa for Seniors and other programs, but they are filling up fast. If you would like to adopt a senior citizen or a family for holiday programs, contact UDMO.
