CLAY COUNTY, IA (northwestiowanow.com) – Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle accident after a vehicle was discovered overturned in a bean field.

At approximately 6:28 a.m. Monday morning, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle on its side in the 2700 mile of 300th Street. Upon arrival, deputies found a red 2007 Saturn Vue resting on its passenger side in a field adjacent to the roadway.

The vehicle, registered to Lucas Richardson, 42, of Terril, sustained an estimated $7,000 in damages and is considered a total loss. Richardson was not present at the scene, and no injuries were reported.

Officials believe the vehicle left the roadway during the overnight hours, struck a ditch, and came to rest in the field. The incident was never reported by the driver, or any witnesses prior to the discovery.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing and charges are still pending.
