Spirit Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Spirit Lake police department has released information about a collision between a passenger vehicle and a cement truck. 87 year old Richard Staver of Spirit Lake was Westbound on 15th Street, and pulled into the path of the truck operated by 66 year old Dennis Pike of Luverne, Minnesota.

The Spirit Lake fire department was called to the scene and had to remove a door from Staver’s Chevy Equinox to free him and his passenger – 82 year old Barbara Staver. Both occupants of the car were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Spirit Lake and Staver was charged with failure to yield.

The incident occurred at 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
