Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Storm Lake city leaders have unanimously approved the “Neighborhood Volunteer Program.” It’s designed to help elderly residents or those with disabilities who might struggle with mowing the lawn or shoveling snow. Instead of issuing citations or abatements, the City’s Building and Codes office will now look to connect those in need with local volunteers.
Mayor Meg McKeon says the program is all about neighbors helping neighbors, though the city notes this is intended for one-time assistance in cases of absolute need.
If you want to lend a hand, you can sign up to volunteer at City Hall or through the city’s website at StormLake.org.
