Graettinger, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – On Big Country 107.7, Matt Gronewold had the call for the GTRA and West Bend-Mallard Boys and Girls contests.
In the Girls Contest, a low scoring first quarter saw GTRA hold an 8-5 lead. West Bend-Mallard struck for 16 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 21-15 lead into the half. The Wolverines were able to hold that gap through the second half and came away with a 42-35 win.
Hailey Stalzer led West Bend-Mallard with 15 points in the win. Addison Hansen led four Titans scorers with 11 on the evening. West Bend-Mallard improves to 2-0 on the year and GTRA will drop to 1-1 in the infant season.
It was all Titans in the Boys game, as GTRA bolted out to a 23-11 lead in the first quarter. The defense stiffened up even more for GTRA in the 2nd quarter, holding the Wolverines to only 4 points while they charged for 19. Another 19-point quarter in the 3rd and a 14-point quarter in the 4th helped the Titans cruise to a 75-34 drubbing of their Twin Lakes Conference foe.
GTRA had 3 scorers in double figures. Kasey Hough scored 20 first half points en route to a 28-point night. West Bend-Mallard takes their second loss in as many days to fall to 0-2 on the year while GTRA starts the regular season off with the win.
Next up for GTRA will be a road trip to Emmetsburg on Friday. West Bend-Mallard will host Southeast Valley on the same night.
